Wow, look at the difference 15 years makes! We've grown up and out at the same time. I prefer us as we are now, both inside and out.
John and I met while I was a freshman in high school, he was a sophomore. We both really liked each other, but you know how high school is. At least for me, nothing went the way I wanted it to. John moved away the end of that first school year. We ended it all on really bad terms. I was extremely mad at him (to put it nicely), not for moving, but for something prior to that. He knows what it was, punk! After he moved away, I saw him one more time at a school basketball game . . . from a distance.
Fast forward to my senior year. I was going out with my friends one night. We stopped at the grocery store to pick up some diet coke for one of the girls mom. John was there with his friends. I saw him and he obviously saw me. He asked one of his friends to get my phone number from a girl I worked with. He called one night and that was it. It was the instant connection that we had years before.
We went out for about a year and a half before we got married. I was young, just 18. We've had our ups and downs throughout our marriage. But, we've made it this far with John only having to sleep on the couch once (I'm pretty patient and overlook a lot). You know that saying, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade? I think I should have invested in a lemonade stand because we've sure made a lot of lemonade over the years!
I'm thankful that we were both in the right place at the right time. I truly believe that John is my soul mate. He understands me and knows be better than anyone. He loves me for me and I love him for him. Neither one of us is perfect . . . or even close to it, but we are perfect for each other.
