Day One

John and I escaped for a mini vacation to Southern California while Bethany kept our kids for us. We loaded up and left on Sunday morning. Our first stop was to Burger King for ham croissants . . . love 'em! We weren't quite to the freeway when I realized that I hadn't left the Kaiser cards with Bethany, so we turned around and left them on her door stop. Then we were off again.

Our next real stop was in the Fashion district in LA. Quite different than what I'm used to. We visited the fabric section. I wanted to see if they had any Cars fabric to make a blanket for Sammy, but they didn't. There were a lot of people, a lot of shops & a variety of smells (to put it nicely).

Next up was the LA farmers market. We walked around for a bit, trying to decide what to eat, then decided to have lunch at Johnny Rockets. After lunch, we walked around The Grove shopping center. Didn't buy anything there either, but it's always nice to look!

By this time, it was time to check in to our hotel room. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Anaheim. We pricelined the room for $45. Not bad. At check in, they said we had a two queen bed room. John asked if they had any King size beds. Kendrick, our helpful hotel desk man, upgraded our room to a King/Family suite complimentary. That was very nice of him considering when we came down stairs later that evening, there was a sign to upgrade to the King/family suite for an additional $60 a night.

We hurried to our room, put our stuff down, bathroom breaks and took off again. We headed to Seal Beach for the sunset. Typical of us, we missed seeing the sunset by maybe two or three minutes. But, we still walked out on the pier. It was cold and windy. Only one crazy surfer in the water freezing his cahoneys off, waiting for a wave that never came.
We walked down the street to this little shop. It was full of shells and beach themed souvenirs. We picked up some necklaces & bracelets for the girls, some postcards & a dolphin figurine for Lexi.
Next up, we headed to Disneyland to buy our tickets for the next day. The ticket booth man asked if we were residents of Southern California. We said no but he gave us a two day park hopper for the price of the single day anyway. He gave a wink and said "since we showed that we are southern California residents he was happy to give us a two day park hopper at the single day price". We were thankful, but of course, not sure if we'd even use the two days.

Time for a late dinner. We headed to Chilis where we shared mushroom jack fajitas. I had a cherry coke also. I had one earlier at Johnny Rockets, but it was horrible, so I was glad that this one was really good.

There were movie theaters in the same parking lot, so we headed over to see what movie would be starting soon. I had wanted to see Revolutionary road, but I thought it would be too deep . . . and it was late, I didn't want John to fall asleep in the movie! So, we made it just in time to see Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It was cute, funny.

I was tired after that. Back to the hotel room for bed.
Tomorrow, Day two.
